2025 is the 200th anniversary of the birth of the modern railway, when Britain and the world changed forever!
Did you know that on 27 September 1825, the world’s first passenger train, hauled by George Stephenson’s Locomotion No.1, carried more than 400 people along the Stockton and Darlington Railway? The landmark event drew crowds of up to 40,000 people and marked the birth of modern passenger train travel.

Four years later George Stephenson’s new engine Rocket, won the Rainhill Trials, you may have seen this engine visiting RMR?

Full steam ahead for Riverside Miniature Railway 🚂💨
We recently announced the six amazing groups in Bedfordshire and Cambridgeshire, that have received funding from our Community Fund! 🎉
One of those organisation’s is Riverside Miniature Railway, an amazing community miniature railway in the heart of St Neots.
This funding will support the installation of new technology, enabling real-time train location monitoring. This upgrade will take safety to the next level and allow the railway to expand its operations – running more trains and welcoming even more visitors for unforgettable rides. With the track set to grow to an impressive 456 metres, there’s never been a more exciting time for this beloved community attraction!
Over 83,000 passengers have already enjoyed the magic of Riverside Miniature Railway, and we’re thrilled to see how this funding helps them continue to grow.

The railway is now closed until April 2025
